Stainless castings used in food-processing equipment need to be evaluated as part of the equipment’s cleaning and operating system. A stainless material name and a polished exterior are not complete evidence of suitability. Geometry, surface condition and the actual cleaning exposure all influence the component’s role.
Passivation and electropolishing are both encountered in stainless component specifications, but they should not be ordered as interchangeable descriptions of a shiny finish. Chemical passivation and electrochemical polishing address different surface objectives. The correct requirement depends on the condition of the casting and the function of its surface.
A pressure or leak test result is meaningful only in relation to a defined procedure and acceptance requirement. Pump and valve castings can be tested at different stages and with different objectives. A simple note saying pressure tested does not explain what was tested or what the result demonstrates.
